Fossil Extraction

Picture
When the fossil is discovered, it is extracted with special tools, like pickaxes and brushes. For large fossils, the rock around the fossil is extracted also, to preserve the tissue. Once the fossil is extracted from the ground, it is wrapped in white strips of Plaster of Paris. This eases the rough trip, so the fossil will not crack or break. The white lump is then wrapped in cloth and loaded onto a vehicle, including trucks, cars and helicopters. It is then taken somewhere where it can be studied.
